Hello,
I am Jeanette Nguyen, and Potje is the name under which I make functional ceramic pieces for tableware and decoration. Potje means little pot in dutch and is also a mashup of POTtery by JEanette.
Originally trained as a physicist in Amsterdam, I discovered my love for ceramics in Paris in 2018 where I took classes in wheel throwing of stoneware and porcelain under the guidance of Anne-Claire Martin and Laurence Franceschini at Céramique Paris, while also taking up glazing and the raku firing process along the way. Hooked by this artistic way of working with clay, which contrasted with my prior scientific study of fluidity of materials, I have been making ceramics in Palaiseau, France since.
I draw my inspiration both from Asian pottery, in particular Japanese ceramics where the beauty of the imperfection and transience is celebrated, as well as from geometrical shapes and patterns as a throwback to my former training as a scientist. I strive to combine these two seemingly opposing elements in my pieces to produce harmonious objects with subtle contrasting features.
